Google Bard vs. ChatGPT: Which One is Better?

“AI chatbots are the future of human-machine interaction.” – Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google

In the not-too-distant future, AI chatbots will be commonplace. They will be our companions, our assistants, and our teachers. According to Bergur Thormundsson, a research expert in AI, the global AI chatbot market is expected to reach $1.25 billion by 2025.

Google recently released Bard, its large language model (LLM) for dialogue applications (LaMDA). Bard is said to be trained to have more natural and open-ended conversations with humans. Meanwhile, ChatGPT-4 (GPT-4) has been gaining popularity as an NLP tool that can perform a range of tasks.

In this blog post, we will take a closer look at Google Bard and ChatGPT-4. We will compare them on a number of factors, including accuracy, speed, coding capability, creativity, and user-friendliness. We will also discuss their strengths and weaknesses, so that you can make an informed decision about which one is right for you. To find out, read on!

Meet the Bard and ChatGPT :

  • What is Google Bard? Let’s ask Bard itself.

  • And what does ChatGPT think about itself?

As you can see,Both Bard and ChatGPT are large language models that can talk and write like humans. They can respond to a wide range of questions and prompts. Bard is more friendly, while ChatGPT provides more detailed information. However, there are some key differences between the two models.

Comparison of Accuracy between ChatGPT and Bard :

Bard is trained on a larger dataset of text data than ChatGPT, which means that it is able to generate more accurate and comprehensive responses. For example, in a test where both models were asked to provide a summary of the process of photosynthesis.

  • Bard’s summary

ChatGPT 4 goes into more detail about photosynthesis, providing a more in-depth explanation of the process. Bard’s summary is shorter and more concise, providing a general overview of photosynthesis that covers all the major aspects. However, Bard has provided links to sources that provide additional information, which adds authenticity to its responses.

Both chatbots are accurate and comprehensive, and they provide a good overview of the process of photosynthesis. However, ChatGPT is better for in-depth, detailed responses, while Bard is better for shorter, more general overviews.

Which is Faster: ChatGPT or Bard?

One big difference between Bard and ChatGPT is the speed at which they respond.  Bard is significantly faster than ChatGPT, generating 370 words in about 6 seconds, while ChatGPT takes about 10 seconds to generate 440 words. This is likely because Bard is trained on a larger dataset of text and code, and has access to the internet in real time. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is trained on a smaller dataset of text and code, and does not have access to the internet in real time.

In addition to the speed of response, Bard also offers a more user-friendly experience. When you ask Bard to generate text, it will immediately provide you with three different drafts to choose from. This allows you to quickly select the draft that best meets your needs. ChatGPT, on the other hand, does not offer this option. You must first generate the text, and then you can regenerate it if you are not satisfied with the results.

Overall, Bard is a faster and more user-friendly option than ChatGPT when it comes to generating text. If you need to generate text quickly, or if you want to have a choice of different drafts to choose from, then Bard is the better option.

Who is the better coder: Bard or ChatGPT?

To find out which AI chatbot is better at coding, we asked both Bard and ChatGPT to write JavaScript code that outputs prime numbers from 1 to 10,000.

  • Bard

da

Chat-GPT coding :

da

The code provided by ChatGPT is better than the code provided by Bard because it uses the Sieve of Eratosthenes algorithm, which is a more efficient algorithm for finding prime numbers. The Sieve of Eratosthenes algorithm works by creating a list of all numbers from 2 to n. It then marks all of the multiples of 2 as non-prime. It then continues to mark all of the multiples of the next unmarked number as non-prime. This process continues until all of the numbers in the list have been checked. The numbers that are not marked as non-prime are prime.

The algorithm provided by Bard is less efficient because it has to check every number from 2 to n. This is because it does not use the Sieve of Eratosthenes algorithm.

In his recent video, AI enthusiast and YouTuber Matthew Berman tested the coding abilities of ChatGPT and Bard by asking them to generate the game Pong in JavaScript. ChatGPT provided more complete and functional code than Bard. Berman noted that both models have some limitations: Bard is not yet able to generate code for complex tasks, and ChatGPT’s training data is outdated. As these models continue to develop, they will likely become more capable of generating code that is both accurate and functional.

Which is More Creative? Bard vs. ChatGPT

ChatGPT is trained on a dataset of text and code that is specifically designed to be creative, while Bard is trained on a more general dataset. As a result, ChatGPT is better at generating new ideas and concepts, while Bard is better at providing factual information. For example, we asked both chatbots to write a poem about ‘kite’ in a Shakespearean style:

  • Bard

Since we are comparing the creativity of Bard and Chat GPT , this file has poems produced by them.

Sonnet of the Kite
A kite, a thing of string and wood,
A thing to fly upon the wind,
A thing to soar and dance and sing,
A thing to make a child’s heart find

A joy it never knew before,
A thing to make a man forget
His troubles and his cares and woe,
And dream of things he’d never met.

A kite, a thing of simple joy,
A thing to make a heart rejoice,
A thing to make a soul soar high,
A thing to make a world seem nigh.

A kite, a thing of simple things,
A thing to make a world seem new,
A thing to make a heart sing.
A thing to make a world seem true.

  • Chat-GPT :

In yonder skies, where winds dance high and free,
A kite takes flight, a marvel for all to see.
Its woven frame, like whispers of a dream,
Amidst the heavens, where secrets softly gleam.

Oh, fragile kite, with strings that dare to bind,
To loftier realms, with hope, you are entwined.
Thy paper wings, adorned with colors bright,
Painted by the sun’s most golden light.

The zephyrs play, as if in jovial jest,
They lift thee up, with gentle arms caressed.
Thou dost ascend, o’er meadows and through clouds,
To where the vault of heaven ever shrouds.

Like love’s sweet kiss, thy flight enchants the eyes,
As thou art carried by the wind’s disguise.
Thy graceful twirls, a ballet in the air,
A dancer’s pirouette, beyond compare.

Like love’s sweet kiss, thy flight enchants the eyes,
As thou art carried by the wind’s disguise.
Thy graceful twirls, a ballet in the air,
A dancer’s pirouette,beyond compare.

But tethered still, thou canst not soar too far,
Bound by the earthly hands that hold thee taut.
Yet in thy bounds, a freedom thou dost find,
To touch the heavens, though thou art earth’s child.

So too, doth man, with earthly chains oppressed,
Yearn for the skies, to be forever blessed.
The kite, a symbol of his lofty dreams,
Of reaching heights, where life is not as it seems.

ChatGPT’s Shakespearean poem is more traditional in structure and language. It uses iambic pentameter, intricate metaphors, and a formal tone. Archaic language and poetic devices like alliteration and imagery also contribute to its Shakespearean style. For example, the line “whispers of a dream” creates a sense of mystery and wonder with its imagery, while the line “the vault of heaven ever shrouds,” uses alliteration to create rhythm and flow.

Bard’s poem is more straightforward and simple. It uses fewer figurative language and has a more relaxed structure. However, it can also feel repetitive, as the same ideas and images are repeated throughout. Hence, ChatGPT displays a greater level of creativity compared to Bard.
